Program areas at One New Humanity
Joy thrift store - the joy thrift store collected over $148,000 from 11,157 purchases throughout 2023. The store receives gently used donated goods that are resold to the community at an affordable price. Approximately 85 percent of those orders came from people who live in hamtramck, Michigan. The organization is located in the central downtown district of hamtramck, which is walkable for the many residents who cannot afford a vehicle. The store hired a refugee from afghanistan and two first-generation immigrants from bangladesh and paid them to attend free english classes for four hours a week.
Women's health program (sisterhood fitness) - the program served 119 women who came through the doors of sisterhood fitness for an exercise class or a field trip. In addition, 38 women and girls participate in the annual sisterhood fitness walkathon and health challenge, a fundraiser that is also an opportunity to build intercultural relationships.
Sylhet farm community gardening program - the farm provided 72 gardeners, many of whom are first-generation immigrants from bangladesh and yemen, with everything they needed to grow their ethnic vegetables on garden plots ranging from 40 to 600 square feet. The farm produced around 1,300 pounds of vegetables and fruits distributed for free or at a very low cost to community residents of banglatown in detroit and hamtramck at the sylhet farmers market. Volunteers gave over 26,000 service hours at sylhet farm.
