Program areas at One World Surgery
We provided transformative medical care to underserved communities in honduras and the dominican republic. In honduras, our cutting-edge Surgery center, equipped with three operating rooms and six overnight recovery bays, is the epicenter of our sustainable healthcare efforts. Our honduran team, supported by our steadfast volunteers, successfully performed 1,828 free surgeries, provided 16,919 free specialty and primary care consults, and treated 1,480 dental patients. Our dominican republic team conducted 8,668 free patient consults, provided health education, and facilitated follow-up visits, ensuring ongoing care and support for the community. Additionally, we dedicated 1,677 hours to clinical education for medical professionals in both countries, enhancing their capabilities to serve their communities. Our array of specialties, including orthopedics, general Surgery, ophthalmology, gynecology, urology, surgical oncology, ear nose and throat, primary care, and dental, serves as a testament to our commitment to comprehensive healthcare. These specialties extend the reach of our care and promote bidirectional exchanges of culture and education between our dedicated volunteers and the local team. Our investment in local teams and the education they receive is a cornerstone of our sustainability efforts, ensuring that the impact of our work endures long after each medical mission. Our upcoming Surgery center in the dominican republic, set to open in 2024, further underlines our dedication to expanding our impact and strengthening our presence in these regions.
We hosted 44 week-long medical missions, and our dedicated volunteers in both honduras and the dominican republic donated an impressive 44,418 hours and served 27,415 patients. Despite the challenging circumstances of 2022, which included the ongoing global pandemic, One World Surgery mobilized 1,034 volunteers to engage with our work. We are proud to have a full-time staff in both countries, and over 100 global teammates, who play a pivotal role in enabling our life-changing work and expanding education within the communities we serve.
