Mainstage Seasonal Productions: Mainstage Musical Summer Stage & Musical Revues - Open Arts Alliance produces 1 mainstage musical over 5 months featuring tri-weekly rehearsals and 3 summer musicals which include two-week intensives each year to foster an appreciation for the arts and training for students in the performing arts arena. 2-3 productions grouped by age grade level are produced every fall for educational training. It provides training for over 325 students and impacts over 4,100 community members each year.
Senior Outreach: Broadway by the Year Yes and Improv Junior Ensemble Tour - Open Arts Alliance proudly pioneers educational programs for senior citizens. We use principles and practices of the performing arts to bring music and laughter to health-care facilities assisted living communities and hospitals making theatre accessible for all- particularly those struggling with dementia Alzheimer's disease or limited physical mobility. Yes And Improv is a fully-interactive course covering the basics of improvisation. The art of creating without prior preparation improvisation instills spontaneous thinking and creativity. Improvisation innately encourages confidence increases public speaking abilities and promotes team collaboration.Broadway By The Year includes an introduction to basic theatre warm-ups sing-alongs with classic musical theatre hits and short film clips documenting these shows. Broadway by the Year students will gain a heightened understanding of theatre history as well as a deepened appreciation for the uniquely American art form of the Broadway musical.
Educational SEL Programs: Classes In-School Residencies & Educational Materials - Open Arts Alliance partners with schools throughout the state of Connecticut through professional touring productions as well as in-school residencies. OAA's educational outreach focuses on social-emotional learning and personal growth. In-school residencies are designed to be conducted in public and private schools for 6-8 weeks. Professional teaching artists teach 50-60 students in grades 3-5 a full-scale musical that is presented to the learning community at the end of the residency. These programs impact over 3,500 students annually.
