Program areas at OPEN Center for the Arts
Artecito Virtual is a bimonthly workshop presented via zoom. This project was created in collaboration with Lincoln Park Zoo and were able to present 26 workshops in the last calendar year. Participants explore different plants and wildlife through a prepared presentation and reinforced through an Art activity.
The Lawndale Mural Project is part of the One Lawndale's initiative of connecting North Lawndale and South Lawndale through the Arts. We collaborated with Freedom House and Artist Haman Cross III to create the first of the murals alongside a 150ft long wall in the South Lawndale. The mural project involved four community teens that supported the lead Artist in the completion of the mural. Looking forward to next summer and continuing the project in North Lawndale.
ArtZone is presented during three community events in North Lawndale and South Lawndale during the summer months. They are the Lawndale Peace Party, North Lawndale Arts Festival, and the Lawndale Cook Out. The ArtZone provides participants 4-5 interactive Art workshops led by community based Artists. Participants are encouraged to visit all stations and create at their own pace. We are looking to expand the ArtZone to include additional dates.
