Program areas at Open Doors for Multicultural Families
Adult and senior support programs: we strive to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate support and services for caregivers of adults with disabilities, including support groups, counseling, training/consultation, and respite coordination.
Pathways to graduation and beyond (bsk): this program provides one-on-one, individualized case management and culturally relevant mentoring to culturally and linguistically diverse youth with developmental or intellectual disabilities who are at risk for dropping out of high school and/or becoming involved with the juvenile justice system.
Community parent resource center (osep, kcddd, city of kent): this program supports diverse Families of loved ones with developmental and intellectual disabilities to navigate disabilities systems and apply for services such as dda, ssi, special education programs, etc. Of which they may not be aware. In addition to this one-on-one, individualized support provided in the Families' own languages, this program offers educational workshops, parent support groups, and fun family events.
Early learning program: this program partners with ethnic minority parents who have children with developmental disabilities and special health care needs in promoting and supporting the socio-emotional, cognitive and language, and physical development during their early learning years (ages 0 6), so that by kindergarten their children will have the skill set to function, access and engage in their homes, schools, and communities. Through this partnership, parents will gain knowledge, experience, and confidence to advocate for their own child and become a contributing member of one's community. This program also provides parent support groups and home visits, and partners with other early intervention agencies to bridge gaps in access for diverse Families, and to prevent children falling through the cracks as they transition to school.
