As the only company in San Diego area that performs fully staged operas during the summer months Opera Neo fills an important niche in the citys cultural landscape. We present live opera performances in intimate venues offer innovative interpretations of the works performed and feature young emerging artists and unique programming. Our commitment to historically informed performance coupled with thought-provoking relevant staging makes what we do unique in the San Diego community and beyond.

Each year Opera Neo holds highly competitive national auditions of over 500 young singers pianists conductors stage managers and stage directors. 30-35 artists are selected and come to San Diego for 5 weeks of intensive professional training mentoring and performance opportunities. Live auditions are held in cities across the country. Opera Neo helps young artists of extraordinary promise to bridge the gap between their academic experience and the expectations of the professional opera world.
