Program areas at Operation Shoestring
Project rise afterschool and summer program:operation Shoestring's project rise afterschool and summer program provides engaging educational, artistic, and social-emotional development activities for pre-kindergarten through 5th grade students, the majority of whom are enrolled at walton and galloway elementary schools. Currently, our work is having a positive impact on the academic and behavioral development of students enrolled in project rise.
Ms statewide afterschool network:operation Shoestring is the fiscal agent and administrative support organization for a statewide afterschool network focused on creating more high-quality afterschool and summer programs in Mississippi. Near-term priorities and work include creating quality standards and providing technical assistance and training for school- and community-based afterschool providers.
Parent initiatives:shoestring's parent initiatives include workshops designed to help parents and caregivers develop tools and resources that can best help their families realize their own self-determined potential and thrive. Our current workshops include those focused on parenting, stress management, health and wellness, and financial literacy. These topics are determined by self-described needs of participating parents. We also provide some resources in support of families in crisis.
Community outreach:operation Shoestring depends on partnerships with people and organizations across our community to offer resources and expertise, including those focused on mental and physical health, nutrition, financial literacy, education, community safety, and more.
