Operation Understanding of the District of Columbia

Social justice fellowship: oudc's signature program is the social justice fellowship, a transformational year-long program for high school juniors. Our fellows are dedicated to learning how to recognize, confront and challenge racism, anti-semitism and discrimination where they find it and educating their communities on how to do the same. They build bridges and use their skills to bring together people of different races, ethnicities, religions, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities. Unfortunately, the 2021 social justice fellowship program had to be cancelled due to ongoing restrictions to combat covid-19. Without the ability to commit to in-person programming (continued on schedule o)and resuming the ever-popular summer travel component, the organization was unable to recruit a balanced cohort of student participants. Planning is underway to re-introduce the fellowship program in 2023, with an updated structure and curriculum.
