Program areas at Orcd Global
EDUCATION: During 2023 ORCD Global continued receiving funds from two donors in the education sector i.e. Charity Right UK and Action for Humanity. The Charity Right funded school feeding program targeted four schools where approximately 2,236 students. The students receive hot nutritious lunch prepared in a kitchen built by the project six days in a week. The project aimed at i to improve school attendance; ii to make children protected from malnutrition; iii to increase school new enrollments; iv to enhance the learning ability of children. The Second project as part of this program was from Action from Humanity AFH. With funding from AFH we continued the renovation of a school in one of the provinces of Afghanistan which was damaged due to conflicts and students did not proper space to be protected from rain and sun.
Water and Sanitation WASH: IIn the area of Water Sanitation and Hygiene WASH ORCD Global received funding for 10 grants from four donors namely Penny Appeal Canada Penny Appeal USA Penny Appeal UK and Osman Consulting. Since the main and primary component of WASH sector is clean water ORCD Global through the grants aimed to provide clean water for communities lacking access to clean water. Through four grants financially supported by Penny Appeal Canada ORCD Global built 243 hand pump equipped water wells and five Solar Powered Water Centers in Baghlan Nangarhar and Kunduz provinces. In addition through funding from Penny Appeal USA ORCD Global is building 80 water wells in Kunduz which are due to be completed in 2024. Also ORCD Global completed the construction of five Solar Powered Water Centers in three provinces Parwan Baghlan and Kunduz. Furthermore ORCD Global constructed 14 water wells through two different grants funded by Penny Appeal UK PAUK. Also another PAUK funded intervention was four Solar Power run Water Centers which is due to be accomplished in 2024. In addition Osman consulting funded a project which intended to rehabilitate WASH facilities water wells and latrines in two public schools of Kabul. The long-term impacts of these interventions include reduced risk of water-borne diseases safe access of clean water to women children elderly people and marginalized groups.
Food Security & Emergency Relief: ORCD Global received 19 grants from eight different donors in food security and emergency relief sector during the reported year. The funding included four projects from the Canada-based charity Penny Appeal Canada which aimed at providing emergency relief support to earthquake affected families in Paktika province supporting flood affected households in Logar province of Afghanistan. It also included winterization support in Kabul province and food security related interventions in Kabul -capital of the country. Moreover ORCD Global attracted five grants from Muslim Aid Penny Appeal USA and Action for Humanity UK - based charity. The programs funded by Muslim Aid were mainly focused on providing emergency food security to families who either suffer from lack of access to basic food items or have been affected by natural disasters. Action For Humanity as the other important partner funded five projects under this sector in 2023. These projects also provided vulnerable families with essential food items in Kabul Kunduz and Baghlan provinces. Penny Appeal UK Penny Appeal USA International Learning Movement ILM UK Programs for NGOs P4NGOs as well as Osman Consulting were five other donors funding one project each to support the food security and emergency needs of communities.
ORCD Global Institutional building: The purpose of the this project which started in 2022 is to facilitate strengthening the institutional capacity of ORCD Global Inc. www.orcdglobal.org so that it is empowered to ultimately help in securing the sustainability and viability of ORCD in Afghanistan www.orcd.org in long run through fundraising and providing technical and financial support. Under the terms of this Agreement ORCD Global Inc. orcd.orglobal.org and ORCD orcd.org agree to the following: i ORCD orcd.org provide a grant to ORCD Global Inc orcdglobal.org so that it could pay the wages salary and associated costs of Dr Qudratullah Nasrat and can cover other administrative costs as indicated in the budget. ORCD Global is authorized Inc to realign the budget lines if needed. ii ORCD Global Inc. orcdglobal.org will develop strategic plan responsive to its needs and have the positions filled with volunteers and then with paid U.S. citizens and LPR holders when after the projects and big grants are received. iii ORCD Global Inc. orcdglobal.org will develop standard operating procedures related to finance procurement HR capacity building gender asset management communication program delivery monitoring & evaluation Anti-Corruption etc. iv ORCD orcd.org will share its lessons learned and best practices for the disposal of ORCD Global Inc. orcdglobal.org.
With funds from Penny Appeal USA ORCD Global is implementing a highly effective intervention in Kabul province which aims at creating livelihoods opportunities for youth through provision of Technical Vocational and Educational Trainings TVET in two skills: Tailoring and Mobile Phones repairing. The project will run for around 10 months and will train 50 youth who do not possess necessary skills to start their own small businesses. The project will continue through mid-2024 and will ensure the trained students receive necessary trainings and tools to help them generate income. The long-term impact of this intervention includes better livelihoods opportunities for the project beneficiaries and will enable them to financially support their families by earning through licit skills.
