Program areas at Oromo Community Organization

The Oromo house that was purchased in 2008 with contributions by Community members and bank loan is the center where the oromos living in dc, Virginia and Maryland meet and discuss how to manage problems they encounter and opportunities available to them. It is where the Community members gather to console and help a member with bereavement, celebrate graduations, weddings and other social happenings. It is where health awareness forums are conducted by international Oromo health professionals association members and dc government health department. The yough groups occassionally meet at this center and learn their heritage and culture that contribute to their healthy development. The church on the second floor is indispensale for the existence of this center. It helps in paying the mortgage.
The Oromo Community Organization helped members who needed immigration support by providing them with supporting letters and recommending immigration lawyers who are familier with Oromo situation in theiopia. Members helped some by counseling how to cope with problems they face during this difficult time of covid-19. These services were provided by volunteers free of charge and with no expenses to the Organization.
The Oromo Community Organization brought awareness to the public the plight of oromos in their own country and Oromo regugees suffering in the middle east countries. The Organization coordinated and encouraged members to contribute financial support to non profit organizations that involved in helping those refugees. Sadly a longtime member of our Organization who served as a board member property manager and tremendously assited in raising funds by organizaing and presenting musical entertainment at fundraising events free of any charges, passed away during the reporting period. The Organization organized and encouraged Community members to contribute for the fueral and to be exemplary it also contributed $2000
