The Ozaukee County Historical Society continues to maintain its office in the historic interurban depot located in cedarburg, wi and continues to maintain its Ozaukee County pioneer village location in saukville. Ozaukee County pioneer village includes 24 historic structures that date back to 1840. The organization also maintains stony hill school in fredonia, a one-room school from the mid-1800's that is known to be the birthplace of our national flag day.
The Ozaukee County Historical Society completed the cedarburg railroad station that is located at Ozaukee County pioneer village. 2023 year to date expenses were $3,160 for railroad crossing bell and refinishing the 1871 railroad desk.
In 2023, the new welcome center project was completed. A wood stove was installed, exterior was painted, exhibits were designed and installed.
In 2023, the Ozaukee County Historical Society launched a new project to restore its historic 1940 milwaukee road caboose. Fundraising efforts started in 2022 and continue, with grants received from the greater cedarburg foundation, and the cedarburg landmarks preservation Society and the chris and mary ann velnetske family along with private donations. The Society held a rummage sale where all proceeds were designated for the restoration project. Work completed in 2023 was asbestos abatement, sandblasting, painting, frame welding and purchase of a caboose coal stove.
