Program areas at Palmer Museum of History and Art
Operation of the Palmer Museum of History Art, the Palmer Museum Shop and Historic Walking Tours. We work to tell the story of the greater Palmer area through our curated historic displays and exhibits, historic walking tours, and web-based Photo Project. The Palmer Museum of History and Art supports local artists through the summers Artist of the Week program. Selected works of each artist are displayed at the Museum. We also sponsor an artwork contest for secondary school students and offer free summer art classes for school-aged children. We gave tours to over 2,000 people over the course of the summer through Palmers historic district
HIstorical Artifact Curation and Exhibits - The museum continues to curate historical artifacts of the area and research further into the local history to develop educational displays, including a new exhibit for local school libraries. Staff members work to access physical objects and photos into the collection.
Palmer Visitor Guide - As part of the mission of the Palmer Museum of History and Art we tell Palmers story in the Palmer Visitors Guide, a 44 page print publication that is distributed around the state. Its purpose is to both explain the local areas attractions and bring visitors to the greater Palmer area. We solicit ads from local businesses, contract with a local vendor to produce the booklet, and work with an Alaskan firm to distribute and store these booklets.
