Parenting Matters strengthens families and prevents child abuse in at-risk families through parenting education and support. Its comprehensive adoption support program, Chosen Families, partners with two other agencies to provide multi-faceted services including counseling, parenting education, case management, respite care, and education advocacy. Program areas at Parenting Matters

Parent partner program is an evidence based, bilingual, Parenting education and support program for voluntary and court ordered clients in Manatee and sarasota counties. Parents/caregivers of children ages 0-12 are visited for approximately 7-8 months by a degreed professional Parenting educator to address individual Parenting challenges and to eliminate harmful/ineffective Parenting behaviours. We served 507 parents and children in 2023. Outcome success was 95%. (based on protective factors and verified parenting-related abuse reported within 12 months of program completion.)
Partners in education and support are group-based Parenting education sessions in several program formats: ongoing weekly groups, weekly parent-child early learning and play groups and classes and workshops offered in Manatee and sarasota counties. Programs are offered in english and spanish to parent/caregivers of childen ages 0-17. Several groups are tailored to meet the needs of specific populations, such as parents parents of preschool or elementary aged children. We served 1,916 parents and children in 2023.
Chosen families is a comprehensive adoption support and preservation program in Partnership with two other agencies. Multi-faceted services include counseling, Parenting education, case management, respite services, and educational advocacy. Providers are specifically trained and adoption competent. This program is available for families with adopted children ages 0-17 residing in Manatee County. We served 148 in 2023. Outcome success was 100%. (based on protective factors and verification that a child remained in their home free from abuse and neglect and did not enter or re-enter foster care.)
