Program areas at Parkinson Association of the Carolinas

Parkinsons Association of the Carolinas (PAC) fulfills it mission as a resourcecenter in the Carolinas by providing people with a number of ways to accessinformation. To initiate a live conversation with a staff member, people can dial atoll-free number for information on Parkinson's Disease (PD) and ways to cope withthis progressive neurological disease. Many of the callers are directed to supportgroups closest to their homes. It is through support groups where people gather themost information and where they can offer and receive support from others whounderstand firsthand about the challenges they face. PAC's monthly newsletterprovides support group meeting information including location and time, currenttopic, and support group leader contact information. The newsletter also featuresarticles about upcoming educational and awareness events and information about PD.PAC maintains a library of reading and audio-visual material available for membersand for newly diagnosed patients and family members. The agency hosts educationalsymposiums to provide information about current research and treatment options andparticipates in community health fairs and awareness events throughout the year.
