Program areas at Parkview Huntington Family YMCA
Healthy living and social responsibility - we are a leading voice on health and well-being in Huntington county. We bring families closer together, encourage positive health decisions, and foster conections and community through fitness, sports, fun, shared interests, and volunteerism. As a result, well over 6,000 people in our community are receiving the support, guidance, and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind and body. This is particularly important as our nation struggles with an obesity crisis, families struggle with work/life balance, and individuals search for personal fulfillment through a healthier and more productive lifestyle. Our memberships and programs are accessible, affordable, and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities, and income levels. Our commitment is to never turn our back on a child, adult or Family that is unable to afford standard membership or program fees. Thanks to the generous contributions of our cause driven donors, we are able to strengthen each foundation of this community by providing financial assistance to people who otherwise would have faced economic barriers to participation.
Aquatics and water safety - aquatics is perhaps the best known aspect of our rich heritage thanks to the swimming greats that began their careers at the Huntington Ymca. Under glen hummer's instruction, the Ymca's swimming program produced olympic medalists gary dilley and matt vogel, along with renowned coach george haines, who himself instructed over 50 olympic medalists as founder of the santa clara swim club. Today, children and adults of all ages utilize our pools for swim lessons, competitions, recreational activities, training and therapy. As part of our partnership with the Huntington county community school corporation, every third grade student in our county takes swimming lessons near the conclusion of each school year. Additionally, we're also proud to partner with organizations such as Parkview Huntington hospital, Huntington university, pathfinder services, united way of Huntington county, the otters swim team, local law enforcement, boy scouts of america, girl scouts of the usa and the american red cross.
Youth development - our Ymca is committed to nurturing the porential of every child and teen, regardles of faith, background, ability or income level. That's why our sstaff and volunteer teams are committed to helping young people cultivate the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Our youth programs, such as Ymca preschool, dance, soccer, volleyballl, gymnastics, swimming, summer day camp, champion's league, and kim league basketball, offer a range of experiences that enrich cognitive, social, physical and emotional growth.
