Widely considered the highest recognition for nursing excellence, magnet designation is achieved by only 9.96% of u.s. Hospitals and recognizes measurable, positive patient outcomes and high satisfaction levels. Magnet designation is granted by the american nurses credentialing center's (ancc) magnet recognition program, which ensures that rigorous standards for nursing excellence are met. To maintain magnet recognition, a Hospital must continue to meet the high standards set by the ancc. According to the ancc, magnet designation indicates an organization provides a culture in which nurses can flourish as professionals. These select entities place an emphasis on providing their nursing teams with the professional autonomy to make clinical decisions at patient bedsides. They also involve nurses in decisions regarding the patient care environment, as well as enable more interdisciplinary collaborations with other team members.whitley Memorial Hospital, Inc. maintains the designation of being a baby friendly organization as awarded by baby-friendly usa. This is a 5-year designation, and each year the Hospital is assigned quality audits to complete and submit to maintain our designation. The award recognizes a commitment to improving the health of babies by providing education on the positive effects of breast feeding. The designation was awarded after several criteria were met, including an onsite survey, demonstrating that policies and processes were in place to help educate and promote safe feeding practices to all mothers who give birth at the location. In 2022.for the third year in a row, Whitley Memorial Hospital, Inc. was recognized as an inspire Hospital of distinction for 2022 by the Indiana Hospital association, in partnership with governor eric holcomb and state health commissioner kris box, facog, for its excellence in caring for mothers and babies, having implemented best practices in key areas that are drivers of infant and maternal health.during 2022, Whitley Memorial Hospital, Inc. was awarded the joint commission's gold seal of approval and the american stroke association's heart-check mark for primary stroke certification. Whitley is the first Parkview Hospital outside allen county to receive primary stroke certification. In addition, the Parkview warsaw facility was awarded the joint commission's gold seal of approval and the american stroke association's heart-check mark for acute stroke ready certification. This certification is for hospitals or emergency centers with a dedicated, stroke-focused program serving the community. Both facilities underwent rigorous, on-site review in august 2022. During the visit, a joint commission reviewer evaluated compliance with related certification standards, including stroke program management, supporting self-management, delivering and facilitating clinical care, and performance measures. Joint commission standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewer also conducted on-site observations and interviews.special clinical services:whitley Memorial Hospital, Inc. Introduced robotics surgical technology for use in hernia and gall bladder cases in 2019. In january 2021, robotic gynecological surgery services were added. This minimally invasive approach is associated with reduced recovery time and a decreased risk of complications for patients who qualify for procedures utilizing this technology. There were 101 gynecological robotic surgery cases during the year and 247 general surgery cases or 28% of total surgical procedures. Robotic volumes increased 37.7% from prior year.two important imaging tests are offered to the public for a reasonable out-of-pocket cost. The heartsmart ct scan is a simple, non-invasive test that can detect coronary artery disease in its early stages. There were 787 scans performed in 2022 between Whitley and warsaw locations at a minimal out-of-pocket fee. Lung scans are available as well for those individuals considered to be "at-risk". A total of 473 individuals utilized that service. The test involves a low dose ct to assist in diagnosing early-stage lung cancer.echocardiography procedures were moved from the provider clinic to the Hospital setting at Whitley in 2022 to enable access for patients five days per week versus just two days. This change lessens inpatient Hospital time for those needing the test results for discharge or enables patients to stay in their community Hospital instead of having to be transfered to allen county Parkview hospitals. For outpatients, access to the test is now much quicker as well. The procedure uses ultrasound technology to take pictures of the heart and check how well it is functioning. Financial assistance:whitley Memorial Hospital, inc.'s mission includes caring for people who do not have the means to meet their financial obligations. A financial counselor is available to assist patients in navigating this process. The Hospital prioritizes our responsibility to deliver excellent, necessary care to the patient, not the patient's ability to pay for his/her medical expenses. Patient and family input:the patient and family advisory council (pfac) is a forum that enables patients and families to have direct input and influence on the policies, programs, and practices of Whitley Memorial Hospital, Inc. The council includes community members from both Whitley and kosciusko counties and helps the Hospital leaders to understand the pulse of the community and guide decisions that ensure the community members felt safe when coming to the Hospital. Patient experience including wait times, patient falls and warsaw facility/services expansion are examples of topics discussed. Patient survey results are taken seriously at both Whitley and warsaw. The ratings and comments are provided to leaders for review and follow-up on both positive and negative feedback.
