Advocacy & community engagement: in the year ending june 30, 2023, phfo advocated for new and expanded policies to improve food safety net programs that help families to access food. Two of the largest programs, snap as well as school and summer meals, help feed over 700,000 oregonians.
Snap outreach: in the year ending june 30, 2023, phfo either directly or indirectly served approximately 141,111 persons with information about the snap program, through our website or through training and outreach materials & programs. We advocated for waivers and changes to increase benefits and to make snap benefits as widely available as possible during the pandemic.
Child Hunger prevention: in the year ending june 30, 2023, we advocated for and provided information, education, and resources to ensure access for over 300,000 Oregon kids who are eligible for Free and reduced-price school meals. More than 114,000 children in Oregon live in households that struggle to afford enough food. Our work to ensure universal access to meals in schools will ultimately benefit over 560,000 Oregon children.
Lobbying: under this program, phfo supports and advocates for legislation that addresses Hunger and proverty. Phfo publishes A policy agenda each year. During state legislative sessions, staff may testify at hearings, make legislative visits and assist policy makers in developing and promoting policy-based solutions to Hunger and proverty in Oregon.
