The first category is for educator scholarships in the city of Pembroke Pines Charter School system. The scholarship amount ranges from 1,200- 1,500 and is awarded to the number of educators approved by the board. The educator must submit an application to the board. The board will determine the eligibility of the educator based on the guidelines. The board will also determine the number of awards to distribute. If there are more eligible educators than there are scholarship funds available, the Foundation board will give preference to educators that have not previously received scholarship funds and then preference will be based on seniority in the Charter School system. The scholarships are paid to the university or college where the educator is enrolled. At the meeting held on thursday, april 28, 2022, the executive board of the Pembroke Pines Charter School Foundation, inc. approved the tuition scholarship amount of 1,500 will be awarded to the educators approved by the board for School year 2022-23. In fiscal year 2022-23, two scholarships were paid to 2022-23 scholarship recipients at 1,500 each. An additional two scholarships were pre-paid for the 2023-24 scholarship recipients; however, it was processed at the incorrect scholarship amount of 1,200 each. The 600 unpaid scholarship amount will be paid in the 2023-24 fiscal year. 4 awards totaling - 5,400 the second category is the teacher-of-the-year and non-instructional employee-of-the-year awarded at each campus. All teachers and non- instructional employees qualify for this award. The award amount is 500 for each staff member. Teachers and non-instructional employees submit nominations for recipients of the award. The nominations are then put on a ballot and all employees vote for the winner. Nominations and voting are done at each site exclusively. There are two winners at each campus: one winner for teacher-of-the-year and one winner for non-instructional employee of the year. In the case of a tie, there is a runoff vote for a single winner. The winners are then presented with the 500 award at a ceremony. 15 awards totaling - 7,500.00 the third category for student scholarships is the jaguar pride award (School pride award). The scholarship amount is 1,000 and is awarded to 1 student. This scholarship is available to any student that illustrates outstanding commitment to the Pembroke Pines Charter high schools mission and policies and has a weighted 4.0 or higher-grade point average. The student must complete an application, obtain two letters of recommendation, and complete a 250-word essay outlining the ways in which the student exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding student by demonstrating the schools mission and policies. Once all applications have been turned in, the board members will select a student to receive this award based on the qualifications and the characteristics described in the guidelines of the award. The scholarships are paid out to the university or college that the student attends after graduation. 1 awards totaling - 1,000.00 the fourth category is the calvin giordano scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a student that has exhibited a passion and commitment to the stem field. The scholarship is awarded in the form of a macbook. The student must complete an application, obtain two letters of recommendation, and complete a 250-word essay outlining the ways in which the student has focused and fostered their interest in stem to make an impact at Pembroke Pines Charter high School and the community. Once all applications have been turned in, the board members will select a student to receive this award based on the qualifications and the characteristics described in the guidelines of the award. The scholarship is awarded at the annual senior awards ceremony. One apple macbook + applecare totaling 1,048.00 was paid out this year. 1 award totaling - 1,048.00 the fifth category for student scholarships is the jaguar resiliency award (turn around award). The scholarship amount is 1,000 and is awarded to one senior. This scholarship is available to any student that has illustrated outstanding resiliency to overcome challenges and persevere academically. Once all applications have been turned in, the board members will select a student to receive this award based on the qualifications and the characteristics described in the guidelines of the award. The scholarships are paid out to the university or college that the student attends after graduation. 1 awards totaling - 1,000.00 the sixth category for student scholarships is the jaguar perseverance award. The scholarship amount is 1,000 and is awarded to one student. This scholarship is available to any student that illustrates outstanding commitment to the Pembroke Pines Charter high schools mission and policies and demonstrates outstanding performance in spite of academic challenges. The student must complete an application, obtain two letters of recommendation,and complete a 250-word essay. The essay must outline the ways in which the student exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding student by demonstrating the schools mission and policies. It must also include how that student has demonstrated outstanding performance in spite of academic challenges. Once all applications have been turned in, the board members will select a student to receive this award based on the qualifications and the characteristics described in the guidelines of the award. The scholarships are paid out to the university or college that the student attends after graduation. 1 award totaling - 1,000.00 the seventh category for student scholarships is the frank arts Foundation scholarship. The scholarship amount is 1,000 and is awarded to one student. This scholarship is for a student pursuing a college degree in the arts. The student must complete an application, obtain two letters of recommendation, and complete an essay. The student must also be interviewed by board members. Once all applications have been turned in, the board members will select a student to receive this award based on the qualifications and the characteristics described in the guidelines of the award. The scholarships are paid out to the university or college that the student attends after graduation. 1 award totaling - 1,000 the eighth category for student scholarships is the vicki croft scholarship (formerly known as most improved student award). The scholarship amount is 1,000 and is awarded to one student. This scholarship is available to any student that demonstrates a significant improvement in attitude and academic achievement during the four years of high School. Any student that feels they qualify for this award must receive two recommendations from different teachers and complete a 250-word essay. Once all applications have been turned in, the board members will select a student for this award based on which student best represents the qualities and characters described in the award. The scholarships are paid out to the university or college that the student attends after graduation. 1 awards totaling - 1,000.00 the ninth category for student scholarships is the sue katz scholarship- learning service award. The scholarship amount is 1,000 and is awarded to one student. This scholarship is available to the student that achieves the highest number of service-learning hours. The student must submit an application to the board members of the Pembroke Pines Charter School. If more than one student qualifies, the scholarship will be split evenly among the students. The scholarships are paid out to the university or college that the student attends after graduation.
