Description
Since 1963, the Peninsula SPCA has provided shelter and adoption services for the homeless pets of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and York County. Now, in 2015, we have transitioned to be an Adoption Guarantee, or “no kill” animal shelter, allowing us to expand our services to include adoption, humane education offerings to students and civic groups, and outreach programs to the citizens of our community. We have placed over 45,000 animals into loving homes in the last decade and have returned thousands of stray animals to their owners.

Program areas at PSPCA

Sheltering and adoption services: this year we will provide care and shelter for more than 1,000 homeless pets as they await their new forever families. This includes food, medical care, training and shelter.
Humane education: our humane education learning center provides hands-on programming,outreach & advocacy through programs To the public and various schools and community organizations, including title 1, underserved and at-risk youth,in hampton, newport news, york county, poquoson and surrounding communities. These educational programs meet national and Virginia standards of learning guidelines and combine service learning and animal welfare education concepts with stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) curriculum, providing educational experiences that can only be accomplished in the pspca's one-of-a-kind informal education classroom setting.
Affordable veterinary care: in an effort To offer resources that help keep companion Animals healthy and at home with their owners, pspca operates an affordable, preventative healthcare clinic that offers low-cost vaccinations, parasite control, micro-chipping and spay/neuter services. In the past year, the pspca clinic has administered vaccinations To over 1,000 pets and focused on our efforts To prevent pet overpopulation by performing more than 500 spay/neuter surgeries.
