Program areas at Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center
The pbbhc is a culmination of several years of efforts to raise awareness of Behavioral Health concerns, remove the stigma associated with mental Health treatment and build support among key stakeholders for a complete solution to the region's mental Health needs.the pbbhc exists to create a comprehensive Behavioral Health Center to provide services for residents of the Permian Basin. The Permian Basin region includes a total of 17 west Texas counties, with a total population of over 500,000. The Center will include inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care for adults and adolescents, along with a crisis stabilization unit and counseling and therapeutic spaces appropriate for all ages. It is the goal of the pbbhcto provide a continuum of care for mental Health services for residents of the Permian basis, along with support for their families and the community as a whole.to accomplish this objective, the ector county hospital district and the midland county hospital district joined together to collectively plan the objectives and purpose. During this planning phase, the pbbhc was formed, a plan of action was created and a project budget was developed. The cornerstone of this project is the state of the art facility itself that will attract qualified healthcare professionals to a traditionally difficult to recruit area.the facility will be a thoughtfully designed comprehensive behavior Health Center in a location central to midland and odessa and its residents.the estimated costs associated with the construction of this facility is in excess of $80m. Recognizing the need for such a facility and supporting the objective of pbbhc, the Texas legislature approved a bill to allocate $40m of funds received by Texas under the american rescue plan act of 2021 toward the construction of the facility. It is anticipated that the balance of the funds needed will be raised through private donations to the pbbhc and/or mchd and echd's private foundations.the pbbhc will be a resource to the entire region with its principal purpose to promote a holistic approach to mental well-being and provide appropriate medical care to the residents of the Permian Basin.
