Having the option for Pet Haven as a safe place for family pets helps to take the stress off of an often difficult decision. As part of Pet Haven's mission to reduce unwanted litters and overpopulation, Pet Haven provided spay/neuter services to 726 pets through our veterinary partners. Through Pet Haven's microchip program, 810 pets received microchips. Pet Haven registers every chip to the new adopter and stays on as secondary contact so every Pet Haven pet has a safe place to land no matter what. Both the spay/neuter services and the microchip program have seen continual increases every year.As part of our mission to serve more Minnesota pets in need and increase our life saving impact, Pet Haven opened up its first physical space in April of 2022. The facility is a beautiful and welcoming 5,500 sq foot community building center where families are created through our adoption programs, fosters are supported through having a central meeting place and housing supplies, volunteers have access to staff when needed, and this facility also offers temporary emergency holding of at risk pets when needed thus allowing us to impact a greater number of pets in crisis. We continue to see the effects of housing insecurity and financial stress on pets and people in the community, as Pet Haven saw an increase in surrender services of 69% as compared to 2021.
