Program areas at Philly Goat Project

PGP's Community Programming includes free monthly educational and community focused goat walks in partnership with other small nonprofits and culturally significant locales. Partnerships this year include the Lenape Nation, In Color Birding, The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild, Awbury Arboretum, Johnson House, and Strawberry Mansion to name a few. Our Community program expanded to provide the Neighborhood Family Garden, an all access food growing and cooking program with free guided walks and yoga. The success of this program is built upon a robust volunteer network including over 140 volunteers.
PGP's Wellness Programming provides trauma-informed nature-based services for a range of people of all ages and stages including those impacted by violence, grief, loss and isolation and/or disabilities, both at the farm and at community sites. PGP's exceptionally run and free bi-monthly special needs animal assisted therapy called the RAMble continues to thrive. This year PGP began free professionally led grief walks each season in conjunction with our Grief Garden, which is a beautiful contemplative free space for people seeking support and guidance to address grief and loss. Our wellness team also provides free and reduced cost therapy support for groups and individuals with disabilities.
PGP's Educational Programming spans from hands-on teaching in the Philadelphia public schools, to partnering with local parks and libraries. In the public school, we provide engaging nature based programming with educational staff and trained goats focusing on curriculum based lessons, held at the school or at the Farm at Awbury. This year PGP provided regular and special educational programming to over 17 schools. We also partnered with scores of libaries and city parks to bring literacy and nature based activities. PGP's Educational programming includes the Teen Internship Program, a job skills, anti-violence program that teaches social and emotional wellness and provides many practical opportunities for youth to participate in on-the-job work opportunities and to develop teamwork skills.
