Program areas at Phoenix Girls Chorus
Pgc embraces a holistic approach with our world-class music education program, which includes music theory, sight-singing, aural skills, composition, and healthy vocal technique. Weekly rehearsals follow an extensive curriculum to perfect these skills. Pgc has five choir levels melodia (ages 7 to 9), harmonia (ages 8 to 12), dolce (ages 10 to 14), bella (ages 12 to 18), and cantabile (ages 14 to 18). As singers advance through the program, they learn to read music that they have never seen before at sight and learn to sing complex harmonies. Performing in at least five concerts throughout the year, the choirs sing an extensive choral repertoire that often requires foreign language diction training and imparts an understanding of other cultures. This is accomplished through performances in multiple western and non-western languages, with varying dialect nuances, on both domestic and international tours. Our annual songfest program also provides our singers with a rich intergenerational experience and collaboration with other community, collegiate, and professional choral groups throughout the state of arizona.in addition to musical skills, pgc teaches young women confidence, which is reinforced through leadership and community service opportunities throughout the year. These critical life lessons offer tangible benefits our participants take back to organizations, schools, and communities.pgc empowers young women to find their voice through our three pillars of engagement - leadership, community service, and music. Pgc provides multiple leadership opportunities for the young women in our upper choirs to mentor and guide the younger Girls in our lower choirs. Each year, our high school seniors develop and implement a leadership project geared towards interacting with our younger choirs. We also believe strongly in giving back to the community, not only through our gift of music, but through our time and service as well.there was limited activity during the year ended july 31, 2022 due to covid and efforts to locate a new facility for program activities.
