Medical education symposia: prn has established a reputation for spotlighting the work of the most innovative and influential leaders in the fields of hiv and hepatitis diagnosis, treatment and Research. Covering 20 topics in 10 monthly live-meetings via zoom annually. In collaboration with the medical society of state of new york (mssny), prn issues cme credits to clinicians attending prn's live-meetings and online students completing prn's enduring cme programs. Beginning in 2020 prn began issuing maintenance of certification (moc) credits.on december 6, 2016, dr. james braun, president of prn, was the recipient of the linda laubenstein award for hiv clinical excellence, from the nysdoh aids institute "in recognition of his leadership and unwavering commitment to providing clinical education that has profoundly expanded awareness of hiv medicine and policy among new york state care providers." As dr. bruce agins, medical director of the aids institute of the new york state department of health stated in his introductory remarks for this award, "i want to focus on what has been jim's significant and outstanding contribution to clinical excellence in hiv care in new york. I think i would not be underestimating jim's impact by saying that he has probably been responsible for educating more practitioners about hiv in new york than any other person. And that's not because of longevity. It is because of his tireless efforts through an organization he founded: prn." Prn is well-known for its programs featuring innovative and influential leaders in the fields of hiv treatment and prevention, the diagnosis and management of coinfections including viral hepatitis, as well as other complications and comorbidities. Prn's monthly meetings are always well attended with 60-100 attendees each month. Since 2001 in collaboration with the new york county medical society and since 2o1o with the medical society of the state of new york (mssny), prn has issued cme credits to our live-meeting attendees. The topics, content, and educational aims of prn meetings are based on expressed needs of prn members, advances in technology and Research pertinent to improved patient care, and objective measures of prn audience knowledge and performance through the use of pre- and post-meeting audience evaluations. In addition to prn's monthly live-events, prn creates videos of its educational programs and publishes them online in the prn notebook at the prn website www.prn.org. Prn also gives these programs free-of-charge to the aids institute of the new york state department of health for broadcast with cme on their continuing education initiative. These online students were mostly Physicians, nurse practitioners, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, registered nurses, and pharmacists, and the remainder came from a variety of backgrounds including case/ care managers, counselors, health educators, outreach workers, social workers, psychologists, medical/dental assistants, dentists, health program administrators/coordinators, health profession students/trainees, public health professions, pharmacy technicians, hiv test counselors, nutritionists, dietitians, dental hygienists, therapists and interventionists, indicating a wide professional need for educational programs produced by prn.
Website and online education: prn maintains a web site (www.prn.org) where enduring videos of prn's live-meetings provide online continuing medical education to a much wider national audience of clinicians. Also on the prn website is the "prn news" column with reports from national and international conferences pertinent to clinical diagnosis and care of hiv and hepatitis. All postings are edited and fact-checked by our editorial staff and are focused on news important to prn's target audience of primary care clinicians.effective march 2020 facilities used to hold live-meetings were closed due to covid-19. Beginning in april 2020 live presentations were made via zoom.
