Plainview-Elgin Area Food Shelf serves the mission of assisting area persons in need of food and basic necessities. In 2022, they served a total of 4245 persons from 1152 households, distributing 69,420 lbs of groceries. The Food Shelf operates with dedicated volunteers supervised by the Director and Assistant Director. They personally assist in selecting grocery items and ensuring access to needed basic necessities such as toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste, soap, etc. The Food Shelf is open daily to serve those in need in the Elgin community.
