Program areas at Mission Plasticos
United States - Reshaping Lives America - 2022 has continued to be a time of growth for Mission Plasticos. The program provides reconstructive surgical care to uninsured and underinsured patients in the United States living below the poverty line. Reshaping Lives Full Circle, the first nationwide program providing no-cost breast reconstructive surgery for post-mastectomy women living in poverty is also a part of this program. The enthusiasm for these programs is evidenced by the outpouring of support from board certified surgeons volunteering their time and talents. This program is year round and to date, over 1,000 patients have received life-changing care and medical tattoos. Through our media campaigns we have reached over 1.7 million households.
Cordoba, Argentina - We conducted our fourth mission to Argentina with a team of seven medical volunteers from the US, the Netherlands and Argentina. This was our first mission to the city of Cordoba, where the team performed advanced reconstructive surgical procedures and training at Nuevo Hospital San Roque, a public state hospital, with some services lead by professors at the National University of Cordoba. During patient procedures, Argentine medical staff, fellows, and residents present in the operating rooms were trained. The operating room was also equipped with a live interactive feed so that 75 medical professionals could attend and interact with the surgeons during the surgeries. In addition, more than 160 medical professionals registered and received advanced surgical training during the online transmission of these advanced breast reconstructive surgical procedures. Medical professionals from various states in Argentina benefitted from surgical training.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico - The volunteer medical team of plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses performed 70 reconstructive surgeries and trained local surgeons to perform complex procedures self-sufficiently. Additionally, Mission Plasticos to donated critically needed supplies and equipment to the under-resourced surgery center.
