Program areas at Platform Art

Our main program service this year was completing the Friends of Freedom Monument recognizing the Buffalo Soldiers and their participation in the Spanish America War. The tiles that the students did were made from artwork they designed. The artist had a work session explaining the entire process from the original concept for the monument to the completion. Buffalo Soldier reinactors accompanied the monument from Pennsylvania to Florida. The national press and TV stations were involved and there were ceremonies when the monument got to Lakeland and also when it was installed on Veterans Day weekend. The entire project was a great blend of history and art. Everyone was so impressed with this project.
