Program areas at Plattsburgh YMCA
Child care: our Ymca provides high quality care by providing comprehensive activities for preschool and school age children drawing on diverse members of the community. We provide both full and part time options to serve a wide range of family scheduling needs. Our Ymca is the largest provider of quality child care in the area. At bright beginnings we care for families with children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age and are open 50 weeks a year. Woven into the fabric of the Ymca mission is a commitment to strengthening families. Ymca child care programs relieve the burden of balancing work and family and make it possible for parents of children in our care to remain gainfully employed, knowing that their children are thriving in a safe, developmentally sound environment. We strive to create a warm, safe, caring and creative atmosphere for children to grow. The Ymca works with the department of social services to service low income families.
Senior fitness & youth sports: our senior fitness program is designed to meet the needs of active older adults over 60 of age who like to participate in group exercises. Our services are open to the community and are free to Ymca members with a donation requested for non embers. The Ymca provides a variety of affordable youth sport programs for boys and girls starting at the age of four and working through fourth grade. The emphasis of the program is to provide a properly supervised, healthy and fun experience for participants and their families. The four core values of the Ymca of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility are stressed in the program where we work on skill development, fair play, teamwork and cooperation. Ymca youth programs emphasize development of skill, health/fitness, safety, cooperation, self-esteem and respect for others.
Membership: the Ymca is essentially a membership association of men, women and children of all ages, abilities, races and religions. It is dedicated to building a healthy body, mind and spirit of individuals and families. It puts christian principles into practice through programs that promote good health, strong families, youth leadership, community development and international understanding.
