Prevention Point Philadelphia (PPP) seeks to promote health, empowerment and safety for communities affected by drug use and poverty. PPP is working towards a world in which there will be social and economic justice for disenfranchised people, i.e., behaviors such as drug use and sex industry work will be viewed as ever-present parts of the human experience. Services and supports to reduce the harm associated with them will be readily available through social service and public health systems that are welcoming, nonjudgmental, and non-criminalized.

Program areas at PPP

Medical and Prevention services: medical services: we launched our ending the hiv epidemic clinic (sana) integrating hiv and hcv care with wrap around and harm reduction services. Ppp has 30 years of experience operating syringe service programs, serving 30,247 unique and un-duplicated individuals during fiscal year 23 across over 90,000 interactions. Ppp has co-located hiv primary care and provided wrap-around case management for hiv positive individuals for nearly 8 years prior to running its own clinic the last 2 years. Ppp has additionally administered mcm for several years, has additionally administered a prep and hepatitis c clinic the last 4 years, and has 16 years experience operating hiv testing and linkage to care services, conducting 1,775 tests in fy23.
Housing: our homeless shelter is a low-threshold shelter that admits people who are still actively using substances. Ppp has 9 years operating low barrier respite, housing hundreds of individuals over the last several years, and transitioning 56 individuals to permanent housing in fy23. Ppp has 7 years experience operating a homeless outreach team that conducted 3,605 outreach contacts and 383 placements last year. Ppp has 5 years operating a police assisted diversion program, seeing an average of 800 individuals a year, with 2 years operating re-entry services. During covid, ppp co-operated vaccine and testing clinics, and still co-locates pdph vaccine clinics.
Social services: social services include case management, police assisted diversion program (pad), drop-in homeless services, community relations, volunteers, etc. Ppp has nearly 25 years operating a drop in center that sees over 12,000 individuals a year, provides over 4,000 case management referrals each year, and operates public restrooms with an average of 57,000 visits a year. Ppp has 18 years experience operating an overdose Prevention program, distributing 95,644 narcan doses across the city in fy23. Ppp has 16 years operating wound care clinics, conducting 1,103 wound care visits in fy23. Ppp has 15 years experience operating substance use treatment, with an average monthly census of 250 patients. Ppp has 10 years experience providing hiv primary care services, operating its own hiv clinic the last 3 years with an average of 60 patients annually.
