Program areas at Prevention Research Institute
Pri articulated the lifestyle risk reduction model in 1983. The model maintains, as with other lifestyle-related health problems, alcoholism and other alcohol-related problems have two kinds of risk - risks we can control and risks we cannot. The model guides the development and implementation of pri's current offerings, including the prime for life programs, myprime, and prime solutions, as well as its new programs. Prime for life, a series of alcohol and drug programs developed by Prevention Research Institute for young people and adults, and myprime are education programs designed to influence attitudes and beliefs about alcohol and drug use. Internal and external Research has shown that prime for life programs accomplish their goal of changing attitudes and beliefs about alcohol and drug choices. Prime solutions is a treatment program, based on the transtheoretical model, motivational interviewing and the lifestyle risk reduction, which builds on external Research demonstrating effective treatment practices. Prime solutions combines these elements into a unique package of practitioner and participant materials, presentation images, and learning supports.
