Program areas at Prime Stage
Prime Stage produces three mainstage productions for students, families, educators and theatre-goes, along with our sprouts productions that is specifically structured for elementary aged student's 3rd grade and families.our january sprouts was produced at the end of january and promoted for black history month. This year was hariett tubman and the underground railroad. This has increased our attendance with the african american students and families.in april we present our 3rd annual high school drama awards in person. These awards are designed to reward excellence in high-school drama for non-musical productions: that are student run. We had 8 schools participate in the award ceremony.our engage program was produced in april with a commissioned the play perservance based on the book by local author lee kikel and local pittsburgh playwright, l.e. Mccullough. We had 2 in-personal performances then streamed globally to individuals and schools in the us, canada, sweden, france, poland and south africa.this production will be used for our global classroom in the fall of 2023.the literacy in action classroom support system can be used with teachers in-person or virtually. The units are theatre-based activities using theatre techniques to help struggling readers. This is presented at no charge for title-one schools in pittsburgh. This also provides students an opportunity to see live theater with our student matinee field trips.we offer a special performance per production with audio description for the blind or visually impaired, signed interpreted for the deaf and sensory inclusive for anyone with sensory issues.teacher resource guides are available on our website under education for all productions.
