Program areas at Prince George's County
The ARTS Facet provided books and reading materials to middle school students to encourage reading and literacy.
The Links, Incorporated established the HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES Facet in response to the chronic disparities that persist. This year, there was virtual participation in the DMV Links Red Dress event. This event takes place during the month of February and focuses on raising awareness for women's heart health. This event was in partnership with the American Heart Association. Members also participated in the Walk for Healthy Living, a national event, that promotes healthy habits and self care.
The SERVICES TO YOUTH, HEALTH and HUMAN SERVICES, and the ARTS Facets virtually delivered "Empowering Youth Voices" to students at Drew Freeman Middle School. Students produced a 20-minute TV segment based upon the issue of social media. The students participated in three 30-minute, facilitated discussions with subject matter experts provided by Onyx Therapy Group. There was also a Teacher Appreciation luncheon for the faculty for encouraging participation in the program.
NATIONAL TRENDS AND SERVICES (NTS) Facet partnered with Prince George's Community College, Dress for Success, and Women Offering Wealth to provide a virtual mentoring program. This program, "Project L.I.F.T - Links Impacting Future Trailblazers" was designed to help prepare Black and Latina women to successfully navigate the job market and strengthen financial security with the primary focus on empowerment. Sessions Held: Mentor Orientation, Mentor/Mentee Meet, and Greet (Program Orientation), 3 Workshops (Resume Writing & Cover Letter, Interview Skills, and Job Search/LinkedIn Profile & Your Personal Brand) Virtual Career Fair, and a Closing Program. Further, NTS hosted a virtual 2021 Links at the Legislature: A Day at the Maryland State House in Annapolis Advocacy for Policy to Improve the Health and Education of Children.
The Links Incorporated established the INTERNATIONAL TRENDS AND SERVICES Facet with the foremost goal of providing opportunities for tangible service in other countries. This year, the facet observed World AIDS Day and World Children's Day.
