Providence completed a comprehensive climate resilience plan in alignment with our commitment to the us department of health and human services climate pledge. We continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with a focus on led lighting upgrades, water conservation, more efficient delivery of nitrous oxide gas during anesthesia, and advancing our waste optimization work across all hospitals and clinics.program service accomplishments:hospice area of greatest need fund helps hospice patients get what they need to have the best quality of life during this difficult time. Medical supplies are purchased in unique situations where insurance doesn't cover the need (or when there is no insurance). Many programs that were closed during covid have returned like grief groups, massage and acupuncture. With help from the Foundation the Hospital parking garage lighting was updated to promote safety and security. The new l.e.d. Lighting is also more efficient as it uses less electricity. The Foundation also funded some security initiatives in the emergency department, like bulletproof glass and changes in access areas. The don benton cancer services fund provides additional services for patients undergoing chemotherapy. The funds continued to pay for the cancer care bags. As well as continued to fund the veggie rx program. $25,000 made fresh produce available to some oncology patients referred by the oncology social worker. These patients receive fresh weekly produce and recipes from gorge grown.the Foundation raised $ 80,000 in march from the heart of gold to support the rural family medicine program. Residents in the program provide care at the federally qualified health clinic and also work shifts in all care areas of the Hospital. The unique thing about this program is these are doctors who want to work in small towns and do everything for patients, including deliver babies. Foundation funds help with recruitment, specialized trainings and equipment. The Providence Hood River Hospital Foundation donated $200,000 to the Hospital capital purchases in many departments like surgery, diagnostic imaging and more. Trauma nurses talk tough helmet safety program was able to give over 400 helmets in the gorge community in 2022. Ed and trauma nurses present programs in the community to school kids on the safety of protective gear such as bike helmets. Providence Hood River Foundation has been able to provide bike helmets to many children in the community. We participated in the children's community fair handing out bike helmets. Kids can show up at the emergency room admitting desk and ask for a free bike helmet and get fitted for the correct size helmet. We have also had some of the local schools ask for bike helmets for biking classes at school, and we have been able to supply them with the helmets needed to ensure kids are safe on their bikes. The Foundation also provided $175,000 for the purchase of a small bus for the sunshine club which is a day respite program for people who have alzheimer's disease or dementia. Families drop off their loved one for the day and there are meals and activities to engage the participants. The bus provides more opportunities for outings in the community.
