Providence advances progress on our carbon negative goal and in 2023 we estimated that we decreased emissions by over 12 percent compared to our 2019 baseline. In addition, our efforts led to the introduction of the green hospitals act, legislation modeled after Providence that would provide critical federal funding to weatherize and modernize health care facilities. Providence completed a comprehensive climate resilience plan in alignment with our commitment to the us department of health and human services climate pledge. We continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with a focus on led lighting upgrades, water conservation, more efficient delivery of nitrous oxide gas during anesthesia, and advancing our waste optimization work across all hospitals and clinics.2023 program service accomplishments:providence Mission Hospital Medical center:in 2023, Providence Mission Hospital Medical Center continued its tradition of compassion and dedication to our communities by investing to address community needs. Mission Hospital focused on addressing mental health/substance use, housing/homelessness, and equity/racial disparities.access to health care for those in greatest need: camino health center:mission Hospital is a proud sponsor of camino health Center, a federally qualified health Center located in the heart of our service area. To support camino's core services and offset the out-of-pocket expenses for patients without healthcare insurance, we provided grants totaling $750,000 in 2023, camino health Center upheld its commitment to delivering high-quality care to its patients while adhering to all necessary health and safety precautions. Throughout the year, camino served a total of 15,491 unique patients, with a demographic breakdown showing that 61% of these patients were female and 39% were male. Ethnically, the patient population included 8,772 individuals who identified as hispanic/latino, 5,471 as non-hispanic/latino, and 1,137 who chose not to disclose their ethnicity. Reflecting the community's needs, it is not surprising that 47% of the patients primarily spoke spanish, a need that camino efficiently met with its predominantly bilingual staff. Moreover, camino provided services to 13,878 patients living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, making up 90% of the clinic's total patient population. This marked a notable 15% increase from 2022, highlighting the growing demand for affordable healthcare services. The implementation of the 50+ medi-caMedicalal expansion in 2022 contributed to a significant 9% decrease in the number of uninsured patients, showcasing the positive impact of expanded healthcare coverage.throughout the same year, camino health Center recorded a total of 64,624 visits across its various departments, including Medical, dental, behavioral health, and optometry. The clinic's dedication to pediatric care was evident, as it served 2,482 children under the age of 18. The dental department, in particular, continued its outstanding work by closely monitoring children between the ages of 6 and 9 who were at moderate to high risk of developing caries. In 2023, 77% of these children received dental sealants on their first permanent molars, a preventive measure against cavities.camino's prenatal program also demonstrated remarkable effectiveness, with 86% of pregnant women receiving care during their first trimester. This early intervention is crucial for the health and well-being of both the mother and the unborn baby, representing a 4% increase from the previous year. Mental health services remained a priority, with camino screening and following up with 93% of patients aged 12 or older for mental health issues, a 3% increase from the previous year. The clinic also implemented adverse childhood experiences (aces) screenings to ensure comprehensive patient evaluations.the Medical department excelled in its cervical cancer screening efforts, achieving a rate of 69% in 2023. Additionally, there was a notable reduction in the percentage of patients with uncontrolled diabetes, decreasing from 37% to 34%. This improvement highlights the clinic's ongoing commitment to effectively managing chronic conditions effectively. Overall, camino health Center continues to play a crucial role in serving the underserved population in south orange county, consistently adapting and expanding its services to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the community.connecting our community through family resource centers:providence Mission Hospital operates two family resource centers (frc) in the community to provide access to social services for community members with limited resources. Both frcs are part of orange county's families and communities together (fact) platform. Fact is a network of 16 family resource centers located throughout orange county's highest-risk communities. These centers provide essential family support services, education, and resources aimed at addressing current community needs. The following services are provided: mental health services, life skills programs, health insurance enrollment and counseling, parenting classes, family advocacy, information and referral services, personal empowerment programs, community engagement and leadership development, legal counseling, english as a second language classes, children's programming, food distributions, and seasonal programs.
