Providence advances progress on our carbon negative goal and in 2023 we estimated that we decreased emissions by over 12 percent compared to our 2019 baseline. In addition, our efforts led to the introduction of the green hospitals act, legislation modeled after Providence that would provide critical federal funding to weatherize and modernize Health care facilities. Providence completed a comprehensive climate resilience plan in alignment with our commitment to the us department of Health and human Services climate pledge. We continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with a focus on led lighting upgrades, water conservation, more efficient delivery of nitrous oxide gas during anesthesia, and advancing our waste optimization work across all hospitals and clinics.2023 program service accomplishmentsin 2023, Providence Montana continued its tradition of compassion and dedication to our communities by investing to address community need. In 2023, Providence St. Patrick Hospital focused on identified priority needs of access to mental Health Services, safe and affordable housing, access to substance use disorder treatment, and addressing homelessness.access to mental Health servicesprovidence medical group primary care clinics have embedded behavioral Health providers, with standardized depression and suicide risk screenings. Providence St. Patrick Hospital inpatient behavioral Health for adults and adolescents provides crucial access in the state of montana.providence St. Patrick Hospital supported the opening of missoula's first community-based mental Health crisis center, riverwalk crisis center, which opened in november 2023 with collaboration among hospitals, mental Health service providers and local government.safe and affordable housing:in 2022, Providence Montana staff referred 49 patients for legal help with housing/utility assistance through our medical-legal partnership with Montana legal Services association. Since the program launched in 2020, 40% of referrals to the medical-legal partnership are related to housing concerns. This partnership also provided rapid access to Montana emergency rental assistance (mera) program via Montana legal Services association to support people to maintaining their housing.access to substance use disorder treatment:providence St. Patrick Hospital emergency department continued pilot of moud (medication for opioid use) in ed setting with referral to community-based Services for ongoing care.addressing homelessness:providence St. Patrick Hospital staff participate in weekly community meetings to address the needs of people in the community who are unsheltered and at the highest risk due to mental Health, substance abuse, and chronic illness.
