Program areas at Race Cancer Foundation
RACE Cancer Foundation produced races and running challenges engaging nearly 3,000 individuals. The 2023 edition of the Super Sunday 5k and 5 Miler served as the New England Grand Prix championship race for the 5k distance. Additional events included our Winter Challenge, Summer Series races, Oktoberfest 5k, and Charles River Marathon. Test runs were carried out for future races beginning in 2024 for Thanksgiving and Memorial Day. Staying physically fit reduces the incidence of many types of cancer and has a positive impact on the lives of cancer survivors.
In addition to its own events, Race Cancer Foundation's Sunscreen Squad distributed sunscreen at the Boston Calling music festival, and at the start of the Boston Marathon.
RACE Cancer Foundation donated $12,227 to cancer and health focused charities from funds raised via races and running challenges. Donations included $10,205 to Mass General Hospital Cancer Center, whose mission is to advance knowledge and rapidly translate discovery into exceptional, personalized cancer care for their patients, and the creation of the Peter J. Musto Memorial Scholarship, whose first award was $1,500 to a high school student whose father was battling colon cancer. Additional donations were made to the Alzheimer's Association, National MS Foundation, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Lymphoma Research Foundation.
