Program areas at Raleigh County Community Action Association
Head start and early head start provides services to children ages 3-5 and their families throughout Raleigh County. Services include early childhood development and pre-kindergarten education with emphasis on early literacy, early numberacy, and school readiness. Head start children receive free health services and nutritious meals, mental health and disability services are available for children and families with special needs. Transportation is provided for children to attend school in their service area. Head start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physicially.
The company is involved with state and federally funded programs administered by the department of health and human services(dhhs). The programs assist participants who achieve economic and social self-sufficiency by offering shelter, case management, referral services to other agencies and programs, and crisis intervention. A child mentor program is available to eligible children in the service area and the children's families. The mentor program provides participants opportunities to develop and improve parenting skills, assists in job training, and sets up structured learning activities for children.
Rccaa operates several transportation programs which provide transportation programs which provide transportation services to handicap clients, low income population, and to the general public. Rccaa transports clients to doctor appointments, hospitals, work, school, employment training, shopping, etc. Additionally, the Community services block grant (csbg) supports all of rccaa programs with special emphasis on transportation.
