Program areas at Randall's Island Park Alliance
Ripa maintained and improved 330 acres of parkland on Randall's Island, including over 60 athletic fields, passive greenspace, miles of pathways, gardens, and natural areas, including a salt marsh, urban farm, and more. Key projects in 2023 include preserving and restoring the waterfront and the natural regions, improving 250+ feet of pathways, and increasing the tree canopy on the Island. As a public-private partner of the city of new york, ripa collaborated with the city to plan and execute the development and improvement of the Park.
Ripa offered more than 400 free public programs during 2023, reaching nearly 18,000 participants. Ripa's programming staff provided over 200 drop-in programs, including urban farm events, seasonal festivals, outdoor movie nights, and yoga, which drew approximately 6,000 attendees. Ripa also offered a robust environmental education program for local public schools, which served 3,000 students. Additionally, ripa ran its annual free summer camp that served local community-based organizations and provided over 5,000 kids with the opportunity to experience over 16 fun activities at the Park.
Ripa maintained and operated icahn stadium, a facility that is iaaf-certified to host local, national, and international track and field events and has a 5000-person spectator capacity. The stadium hosted approximately 50 meets in 2023, including championship meets for local public, private, and parochial schools, and elite meets and running events for professional athletes. In addition to being a track and field venue, recent investments have been made in a new professional grass soccer pitch, providing a premier facility for soccer and other rectangular field sports that seek a venue for their championships or high-level play.
