Vine and Fig Programming: RAWtools facilitated 2 gun buybacks in partnership with faith organizations, one with law enforcement and one without law enforcement. RAWtools is one of a few, if not the only organization that is able to facilitate a gun buyback without law enforcement present. This achievement was put on hold due to COVID, but was able to be implemented at the end of 2021, with up to 10 more planned for 2022. Partner organizations carried the funding for these events. 100 firearms were turned in and 50+ vehicles (households) served. Buybacks have been an effective way for participants to get rid of unwanted firearms, often inherited or used in the suicide of a loved one. RAWtools expects to help facilitate the disabling of up to 1,000 firearms through buybacks in 2022 because of these first two in 2021. RAWtools also helped facilitate a dialogue training with 12 community leaders in Colorado Springs as well as help respond to the mass shooting at a King Soopers in Boulder, CO through a vigil and gun violence response conference in Boulder, serving 50+ people each. Expenses reported below include Executive Director time spent in this programming.
War No More Programming: Our services in War No more were very minimal and included the end of grant funding paid toward training resources.
Sword to Plow Programming: RAWtools made more garden tools from guns than in any previous year, bringing in over $26,000 in merchandise income including garden tools, jewelry, art, and apparel. With COVID more under control, volunteers were able to help more often, with more than 10 volunteers helping make tools throughout 2021. These volunteers must go through blacksmith training and power tool safety to be cleared to help make garden tools and other items. Expenses below include Executive Director time spent on this programming
