Program areas at Rebuilding Together Long Island
Our mission is to repair homes, revitalize communities and rebuild lives. By providing free home repair services for low-income homeowners (seniors, veterans and families), we help rebuild their lives by taking care of many of the repairs so they can live in safer, healthier homes. For those with physical limitations, we provide free modifications to improve their accessibility, as well as their independence. In 2023, Rebuilding Together Long Island completed 210 residential projects which positively impacted the lives of 333 household members. The median household income of those we served was only $27.7k. With the dedication of our volunteers, we were able to correct 751 hazardous/unsafe conditions. Further, 302 smoke detectors were installed as part of our fire prevention program in partnership with the american red cross. Roofs, windows and doors were replaced, plumbing and electrical issues corrected, homes were weatherized, new flooring installed and more. For our seniors and those with limited mobility, 20 wheelchairs ramps were built by our volunteers. Bathtubs were converted to walk-in showers, railings and banisters were installed, new steps were built to replace broken unsafe steps. During the holiday season, we once again delivered goody bags to this year's clients filled with useful everyday items that we all need (paper goods, personal hygiene items, etc.). For some, it was the only holiday gift they received. We are grateful to all our volunteers for giving so much of their time and their skills. We also thank the corporate volunteers who join us and work side-by-side with our crews to improve the life of someone who needs a helping hand. We are also grateful to our generous donors and sponsors who support our work and believe in our mission and our vision of safe and healthy homes for everyone.
