Program areas at Recirculating Farms Coalition
OUTREACH & EDUCATION: The purpose of this program is to raise awareness about recirculating farms and also to increase public interest in growing fresh local food. In addition, this program seeks to create awareness of the possiblity of creating green jobs through building recirculating farms, especially in low-income and urban communities.
ADVOCACY: The purpose and goals of this program are as follows. 1) Creating an awareness for need for federal funding and other support for research and development of recirculating farms. 2) Promoting recirculating farms as an alternative to ocean fish farming. 3) Establishing clear standards for permitting, monitoring, labeling and operation of recirculating farms. 4) Supporting access to healthy fresh food for low income and underserved communities and children especially in school food programs.
RESEARCH & TRAINING: The purpose and goals of this program are as follows. 1) To develop educational materials and programs to teach recirculating farming. 2) Build a model farm as a training center 3) Host farmer training and workshops. 4) Support research into alternative natural feed sources for farmed fish to replace the use of wild fish for protein.
DON'T CAGE OUR OCEANS: The purpose and goals of this program are as follows. Raising awareness and providing educational information on the development of industrial offshore aquaculture in the United States and its impacts on the environmental and coastal communities.
