Program areas at Red River Valley Fighter Pilot
The organization hosts reunions and publishes a magazine to share the camaraderie and fellowship of our fellow aviators. We provide scholarship assistance to dependents of the lost military service aircrew personnel. The Aviator Medical Issues Committee focuses on health issues that plague aviators and other aircrew disproportionately such as cancer, head/neck issues, and sadly more. We support the Constitution of the United States and honor the service and sacrifice of our fellow US Military Aircrew Members. We continue to advocate for air power in ever expanding ways. The RIVER RATS are maintaining the legacies of America's greatest air warriors, passing those legacies to the young warriors who follow, and taking care of the children of those warriors who gave all.Scholarships are awarded to children of the U.S. Military and Coast Guard personnel declared KIA/MIA/KOW from armed conflicts in Southeast Asia through the present. Dependents of aircrew members killed performing aircrew duties in peace time aircraft accidents are also eligible, along with persons (of any status) studying in engineering fields related to aviation space. The Red River Valley Association, Inc. awarded 67 scholarships in 2023 ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.
The River Rats museum is a permanent exhibit "Home of the River Rats" which will celebrate and preserve the legacy and history of the River Rats. The exhibit will include memorials of key individuals, historical timeline of the River Rats, artifacts, artwork, aviation model exhibits, and archived document storage. The River Rats Museum will be located on the mezzanine level of the Aviation Heritage Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
