Program areas at Redlands Bowl Performing Arts
Redlands Community Music Association dba Redlands Bowl Performing Arts (rbpa) was founded in 1923 by grace stewart mullen for the purpose of providing world-class Performing Arts programs to the Community free of admission charge. The mission of the rbpa is "Music for everyone." Its core program is the Redlands Bowl summer Music festival, which is the nation's oldest, continuously running Music festival where no admission is charged serving over 100,000 people each year. The multi-disciplinary festival features symphony orchestras, an opera, a Community musical, jazz, big band and a variety of culturally rich Music and dance performances on tuesday and friday evenings, with selected performances on other days. The rbpa also presents the young artist auditions, a scholarship competition for young aspiring classical musicians. It is one of the oldest and most venerable competitions in the state of California. In 2023, we presented a full season of in-person programs to the public.
The young artists concerto competition is a scholarship program which provides monetary scholarships to young aspiring classical musicians. Artists compete for the opportunity to perform with orchestra on the Redlands Bowl stage for the grand finals. Finalists receive monetary scholarships, and one grand finalist is announced through an adjudication process.
Eighty-eight keys for youth. As part of the rbpa's musical mission, it presents robust youth Music education programs serving youth in our region with Performing Arts opportunities at no cost. Each year over 35,000 youth are exposed to life-changing Arts programs and performances. Over 60% of participants are low-income and underserved. Program delivery is via the Music in the schools program featuring Music assemblies to elementary students. In addition, Arts impact initiative Music enrichment programs provide the artistic component to the curriculums of partnering organizations such as boys and girls clubs, micah house kids, the Redlands Community center, rochford foundation, mansion memories, and others. Children's festival workshops are presented by Bowl stage artists throughout the summer months for children ages 4-12 and accompanying family members. In addition, day-long musical theater camps are carried out in coordination with the north Redlands Community center's lunch program for underserved youth.
