Program areas at Reef Renewal USA
Reef Renewal USA is part of a larger effort to restore the coral reefs in the Florida keys. To accomplish our goals, corals are grown in three regional offshore coral nurseries in the Florida keys. The nurseries are located off tavernier, marathon, and big pine key. Once the corals are large enough, they are then planted on the target reefs. Current restoration activities are focused up and down the Florida keys Reef tract. There is a special focus on the mission: iconic reefs initiative at carysfort Reef, molasses Reef, conch Reef, sombrero Reef, looe key, newfound harbor, and eastern dry rocks. We place a special emphasis on engaging communities and volunteers to assist in taking ownership of our precious coral reefs.
