Program areas at Restonstrong

Restonstrong supports the largest tent encampment in Fairfax County based out of Reston with the basic necessities incl food water and clothing. Weekly food delivery monthly trash pickup and other resources are provided by Restonstrong volunteer teams. The population has fluctuated between 50 tents at the peak to 20 in the winter. Restonstrong also provides tents tarps sunscreen bug spray etc with the generous support of our Faith partners.
Weekly donations have been delivered to the Hunterswoods Fellowship house - a low-income senior living community with over 200 units every Thursday. Restonstrong SUNDAY FREE Market - A pop up grocery store staffed by more than 35 volunteers speaking over 14 languages and dialects serves 150+ households in Reston and surrounding neighborhoods. The market has Bakery Meats & Dairy Produce Fruits and Misc departments lead by volunteer team leads. 2 Market Managers coordinate operations and over 30 volunteers with ages ranging from 2 to 82 help in various capacities. Since its inception in June the market has served over 4200 households and has diverted tens of thousands of pounds of food waste from landfills. Weekly donations are also delivered to the Embry Rucker Family Shelter Katherine Henley Family Shelter Reston Wiehle Fire station Reston Police and more.
Restonstrong's once a year fundraising initiative helps feed the many food insecure families that are unhoused and living in hotels or temporary arrangements with no kitchen access with Fully Cooked Thanksgiving meals from Harris Teeter with sides and desserts. These meals are distributed by volunteer teams and families are identified by the school social workers.
