Program areas at Resurrecting Lives Foundation
Community tbi education program: this program provides basic education to veterans with brain injuries. These programs are done locally and, increasingly, on a national level. We continued our projects from prior years and increased our partnerships to broaden our community reach. These partnerships allowed us to host in-person and virtual events that educated the public about tbi. There have been increasing requests for national presentations. We continued our tbi education with a screening of brainstorm. Brainstorms wins best narrative short and best actor awards at the gi film festival in san diego. The film also screened at the cinema columbus film festival. This year we launched our national initiative, veterans stand together across america (vstaa) on nov. 1st, 2023 at the national veterans memorial and museum, suicide prevention events, to generate community involvement in veteran safety and integration.
Veterans legislative reform project: the conflicts in iraq and afghanistan have resulted in a new "signature wound", traumatic brain injury. We have learned, through research we sponsored at albert einstein university in 2012-2013, that our heroes are "out of their brains, not out of their minds." We work with our national legislators to develop systems to accurately track tbi injuries and make it easier to diagnose and treat. We also hosted a special event on capitol hill focused on how congress can support the global war on terrorism (gwot) veterans as they continue to transition back into civilian life.
Employment initiative: work continued on building relationships with and training hr departments on the importance of employing veterans as a win/win for company success. This year we collaborated with bruce daniels and impact60 to train veterans as auto technicians and to encourage other companies to do the same.
