Sustaining Chinese Civil Society - The rights Practice US began a new three-year project in September 2018 with the overall objective of building the capacity of Chinese civil society to resist repression, respond to the fear it invokes, and to address the impact of torture and ill treatment. Activities in 2019 included an inception meeting and initial planning for the development of training for civil society representatives to provide peer support, and the initiation of a related small grant application process. In 2021, activities included the publication of a handbook on mental health and the provision of peer support for members of civil society. The project was extended until 30th September 2022.
Human Capital Program - The Rights Practice US began a project in 2016 to administer fellowships that allow Chinese civil society representatives an opportunity to pursue studies outside of China in relation to human rights for up to one year. The project supported five new fellows in 2019 and continues to support several earlier fellows from prior years, and to pursue programs ranging from women's rights, labor rights, international law, food safety, and public administration. One new fellow was supported in 2021 and several from 2019 and 2020 fellows continued to receive assistance. The project was ended on 31st December 2021.
