Program areas at Rio Grande Community Farms

Education outreach program includes teaching local school groups from pre-k to eighth grade about farming, wildlife preservation, and conservation techniques. An educational summer camp is also provided for students affording them an opportunity to learn about sustainable urban agricultural and hands on in Community gardens.
The corn maze is an educational event in the albuquerque metropolitan area that provides field trips for local schoolchildren as well as enjoyment for the general public.
Farming includes wildlife habitat preservation which is maintained for migrating birds such as sandhill cranes and canadian geese and other wildlife in the area such as pheasants, roadrunners and coyotes by growing grains as a food source, sunflowers for a variety of birds, maintaining hedgerows and borders to provide protection, and planting cover crops to provide habitat. Share the harvest program includes farming organic vegetable crops that are raised and sold at local farmer's markets as well as providing food to local nonprofits that serve meals including home for abused children, food banks, and senior centers in the albuquerque area.
