Program areas at Rise Scholars Incorporated
Chess program-our chess program was incredibly successful this year. We continue to provide a recreational chess program and a competitive program. We had over 200 students participating in the lunchtime recreational program. Our competitive program traveled to many tournaments including the national chess championships in Texas. We placed 4th out of 52 teams and our team captain took first place in our under 700 division. We are so proud of this program. It is gaining national recognition for the use of chess as an educational tool.
Summer programming-we provided a five week summer program for 150 students at hamilton school. The program is designed to combat the achievement gap as well as the "summer slide." Our students improved an entire year in their math skills on average during this period and their reading levels increased a half of a level on average. We are a perfect counterpart to the school year, because we meet the students where they are and attempt to bring their skills up to grade level. The students feel successful and learn that effort leads to achievement. The after program survey taken by the students showed that 96 percent of our students want to attend in 2024.
Athletics program-our athletics program is incredibly successful. We provide a recreational program as well as a competitive program for our 2nd through 8th grade students. We have over 250 students in our program. We provide cross country, basketball, soccer, track and field, and recently we added the very popular volleyball program.
