Program areas at River City Community Development Center

Dreambuilders Children's Program build foundational skills and cast vision for career through summer and after-school wholistic programs for grades K-4. In 2022, Operating in a small group mentor model, Dreambuilders served 77 children with safe haven, STEAM enrichments, academic support, field trips and mentor outings both during summer and after school.
Peacebuilders Junior High program uses trusted relationships, city exploration, and activism to build peace with self and others. 81 Junior high Peacebuilders participated in our after school and summer programs, advocating for citywide peace, learning new places and skills, and enjoying safe spaces with trusted mentors.
Citybuilders apprenticeships train youth & young adults ages 12-22 in workplace skills and perseverance through the trade of tuckpointing. Citybuilders apprenticeships operate in two components: classroom training, for which youth earn an educational stipend, and hands-on community service, providing sliding-scale tuckpointing to local homeowners and partners. In 2022, R CITY apprenticed 68 teens in the masonry skill of tuckpointing ("Harambee" program), Additional youth screen-printed clothing (6 apprentices) or served as aides within the Dreambuilders Children's Program (8 apprentices). $40,859 in youth stipends was paid directly by R CITY to apprentices, and Harambee apprentices provided homeowners with tuckpointing services valued at $37,650.
Successbuilders Scholarshipsmitigate financial barriers to success for post-secondary students who have graduated from River City Community Church or River City Community Development Center. In 2022, R CITY awarded $11,000in scholarships to sevenscholars, as well as linking young adults to career training, affordable housing opportunities, on-site R CITY HVAC training.
